VISUAL ABSTRACT ART
Francesca Melotti is an Italian architect and visual artist based in Berlin.
She completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in Architecture at the University of Parma, Italy. She has worked in different architecture studios in Modena, Florence and Berlin, focusing on renovation, interior design and exhibition design.
She developed her painting practice through improvisation, alongside her career in architecture. She began creating photography-inspired abstract landscapes in early 2019. Over time, her instinct led her practice to more abstract and experimental, using a variety of tools from spatulas to pieces of wood and eventually her own body. She often uses her hands and parts of her arms to launch and smear the acrylic color. Her creative process also incorporates sound, allowing sensory perception to influence her subconscious expression.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Francesca Melotti’s artistic workflow is predominantly marked by instinct, experimentation and deep subconscious analysis.
Her works include abstract paintings in acrylic colors, video and photographic collaborative projects.
She believes in following the path of the art toward discovery and learning. Thus, her creative process is constantly in flux while she exposes and researches new methods of expression.
Music is also central to her practice. She sees it as both therapy and a guide for the soul that stimulates hidden unconscious areas in art and in broader life.

She took part in the performative project conceived by the artist Ming Lu. Takes Place I filled the 20-square meter gallery space with a group of artists. Presented through the window wall towards the street, the work consisted of live encounters between people, while the material is the artists or the artists’ presence.
